Most important is tight control of blood sugars. I also made exercise a regular part of my routine, eating healthy, taking vitamins, stress management. Eating gluten free may have helped, but my kidneys had cleared before I switched to gluten free. My A1C went down after I Started exercising regularly and eating gluten free though. I can say though that high blood sugars can be caused by lots of things. The best thing you can do is get a home pregnancy kit or go to a doctor to check if you are pregnant. In my case, my sugars were very, very low during the first trimester. They increased as the pregnancy progressed. Best of luck to you! I've been so worried about whether or not to become pregnant because of how long I've had diabetes. I, like you, have always kind of thought it couldn't be done. I was just one of the unlucky ones who was diagnosed with Type 1 at such a young age... but now I feel a little better about it. Thanks too for Kerri's post as she's a long-termer too... makes me feel hopeful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553600967846266830.post-1280146947339660732011-01-24T11:45:16.696-05:002011-01-24T11:45:16.696-05:00Thanks for all the warm and encouraging comments! Thanks for all the warm and encouraging comments!Ophir Lehavy Buselhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04806213537368437591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-553600967846266830.post-31053650921056717152011-01-17T21:23:09.642-05:002011-01-17T21:23:09.642-05:00Congratulations!! I was put on the Minimed pump by my endocrinologist in 1993 when I became pregnant with my now 17 yr old son. I have been on the pump ever since and now have 3 healthy children, 11 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter(no twins)!
There were lots of tests, appointments, specialists and feelings I never knew existed!
It was worth every tear, blood test, non-stress test, ultrasound and amniocentisis I had to go through!! Thirty-two years with diabetes and my family and I are healthier than we would be if I hadn't been diagnosed all those years ago.
I wish you the very best...you all will do great!!
hugs~ Julie StarnerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
